    Controverse autour du design des pièces néerlandaises (08/12/98)

    A missed opportunity. A poor design. On the eve of the striking, in the presence of Queen Beatrix, of the first Dutch euros the present mint master M. Van Draanen has publicly critised the design of the euro: ''A coin is more than just a means to pay with. It is a tool to communicate as well. The entire world is looking at us: culture, creativity and history, that's the strength of Europe. Perhaps I am too idealistic or too emotional, but those lines and computer designed stars are a missed opportunity. A better design had been possible, this is the result of compromise. It hurts.''The ministry of Finance does not agree with the remarks of its mint master."He is like the gallery holder denouncing the artists work. His task is to mint the coin. He is not responsible for the design''. The first Dutch euro were minted today, December 8. They will have the years 99, and later ones 2000, 2001 on them.

    News vom 12. Juni:
    Am 1. Juli wird man in Lelystad mit dem Bau der Stempel für die niederländischen xEURO-Münzen beginnen. Das Abschlagen soll dann am 1. Januar 1999 starten. Bis zum Januar 2002 sollen in Lelystad 2,8 Milliarden EURO-Münzen produziert werden, deren Gesamt-Oberfläche dann 13.500 m² betragen wird. Der Münzvorrat wird die Größe zweier Fußballfelder besitzen, das Gewicht zusammen 13.000 Tonnen.

    Am 13. Mai:
    Heute vormittag wurde die niederländische Seite der Euromünzen vorgestellt. Für die niederländische Seite wurden zwei Entwürfe von Herrn Bruno Ninaber van Eyben gewählt. Der Entwurf für die Münzen zu 1 und 2 Euro basiert auf dem heutigen Portrait der Königin auf der Guldenmünze. Damit wird Kontinuität bei dem Übergang von dem Gulden zum Euro gewahrt, obwohl durch den Gebrauch von 2 Metallen bei diesen zweifarbigen Münzen ein deutlich verändertes Bild und ein hübscher neuer Entwurf entsteht.
    Die 2-Euro-Münze erhält die Randinschrift "God zij met ons" (Gott sei mit uns), ebenso wie jetzt der Niederländische 1-Gulden und der "Reichstaler" (=2 1/2 Gulden).
    Bei den Münzen mit den niedrigeren Werten (1, 2, 5, 10, 20 und 50 Euro-Cent) wurde ein neuer Entwurf in einem uniformen Stil ausgesucht.
    Die "Commissie Nederlandse Zijde Euromutreeks" hat Empfehlungen gegeben und dazu aufgefordert, einen Entwurf zu erarbeiten. Von den 100 Antworten kamen 10 Entwürfe in die engere Wahl.
    Laut dem Urteil der Kommission entsprechen die Entwürfe von Herrn Bruno Ninaber van Eyben den Empfehlungen und sind sowohl technisch ausführbar als künstlerisch anspruchvoll. Beide Entwürfe passen gut zur europäischen Seite und sind durch das Portrait der Königin sowie durch Qualität und Charakter des Entwurfes als niederländisch zu erkennen.
    In den folgenden Monaten werden die Entwürfe auf Einzelheiten näher erarbeitet. Um den Jahreswechsel herum kann mit der Produktion der Münzen begonnen werden. Bis zum Übergang vom Gulden zum Euro müssen ungefähr 3 Milliarden niederländische Euromünzen hergestellt werden.
    Die Niederländischen Euromünzen werden durch die "Nederlandes Munt" in Utrecht produziert.
    Als Jahrangabe auf den Münzen ist das Jahr der Prägung vorgesehen und nicht das Jahr 2002. Einer der Gründe dafür ist, daß in einer Monarchie die Jahrangabe auf den Münzen und das Bildnis des Staatoberhauptes übereinstimmen müssen.

    Request to all readers: In Holland the Euro's for paying from 1-1-2002 are getting the years 1999, 2000 and 2001. In 2002 the Dutch Mint are making new Euro's with the year 2002. Do you know how other countries are using the years?
    I think Belgium and Spain must do the same as Holland.
