Danmark


Denmark has not introduced the euro. This is a consequence of the Edinburgh Decision which was drawn up after the rejection of the Maastricht Treaty at the referendum held in Denmark in June 1992. The Edinburgh Decision was endorsed, together with the Maastricht Treaty, by a Danish referendum in May 1993. On 28 September a majority (53.1 per cent) of the Danish electorate rejected Danish adoption of the euro. As a consequence Denmark remains outside the Eurosystem along with Sweden and the United Kingdom. However, the Danish krone is linked closely to the euro via ERMII, in continuation of the present Danish fixed-exchange-rate policy.

Facts:

  • Denmark will enter the European monetairy union not as a foundation member !
  • Since Jan. 04, 1999, the Danish Crown depended on the EURO with a fluctuation of the exchange-rates from +/- 2,25 per cent (AFP)
  • At Oct. 28, 2000, a referendum on Denmark's adoption of the euro will be held. It seems to be more people against the introduction than for it.
  • If there will be a desicion for the EURO, then this currency will be legal tender in Danmark from Jan. 1, 2004.
  • The coins shown above are a first specimen from the Danmarks Nationalbank, not the definitive faces of the danish coins.

  • Dänemark wird der Europäischen Währungsunion nicht als ein Gründungsmitglied beitreten.
  • Dänemark nimmt seit dem 4. Januar 1999 an einem dem Euro angeschlossenen Wechselkurssystem teil. Die dänische Krone darf im Vergleich zum Euro um plus oder minus 2,25 Prozent schwanken. (AFP)
  • Am 28.10.2000 findet eine Volksabstimmung unter der dänischen Bevölkerung zur Einführung des EURO statt. Erwartet wird jedoch eher eine knappe Mehrheit gegen den EURO.
  • Sollte sich die Bevölkerung jedoch für den EURO aussprechen, wird diese Währung ab 01.01.2004 in Dänemark eingeführt.
  • Die oben gezeigten Bilder stellen lediglich ein erstes Muster der dänischen Münzen dar, keine endgültigen Entwürfe.
